When I first read the prompt my mind went back to the pharaohs of Egypt riding chariots in hunts and other sporting things. I thought of teams of horses pulling heavily armed warriors charging into battle. Think how frightening it must have been to see an armed chariot charging towards you. I thought of the Greek god Helios riding across the sky with his team of horses pulling his shiny chariot he was riding that also carried the sun through the skies. My thoughts went to Rome’s Circus Maximus where the empire’s best charioteers raced for glory in front of huge cheering crowds. In the movies, there are always deadly chariot accidents which the hero barely survives. I thought how all of these depictions were indeed men of courage reining the chariot. This is what courage to rein a chariot means to me, but what of my life?
